THE SWAN HOTEL

Dark. For so long: as thick as cloth, wrapped around me. For so long I was at peace; I tolerated the ones that lived above me.

Then they opened up my tomb, without a by or leave, a please or thank you; no manners…I’ll teach them manners, this is my place.

They send people to find me; to look at the walls, the floor, the cupboards. They do not see me. But I see them. I see their curiosity, I’m a side show, a freak…

There are others here, like me, but they don’t belong. A young girl, Florrie, she wants to find her family. And Peter, he was staying in the hotel when he passed away; he protects the ones disturbing my peace, warns them when I try to scare them away.

If you come into my home, I’ll show you. The music, that’s me, does it terrify you? The chill, the threats; what will make you leave me alone?

They tried to close me away again, but the door is open now. Just a crack. Just enough. And I have remembered the way out.

Stay if you dare, but remember this is my home and one day Florrie will find her family, Peter will continue his onward journey, and you will be left alone with me.
